Pick the build for the machine in front of you

Every file here is signed by Utly Development Studio. Install it on both computers, or on one and use the portable exe on the other; any two builds talk to each other.

Installer

Windows 10, 11, Server 2019 and later · 64-bit

Installs for every user on the PC, adds the host service, and starts in the tray when you sign in. The service is what shows the logon screen, answers UAC prompts, sends Ctrl+Alt+Del and survives a restart. Uninstalling removes all of it.

Download remote-setup.exe

Silent install for many machines: remote-setup.exe /S

No install

Portable

Windows 10, 11, Server 2019 and later · 64-bit

One file, nothing installed. Keep it anywhere and run it. Everything works except the parts that need the host service; add the service later with remote.exe --install-service from an administrator prompt if you want them.

Download remote.exe

Updates itself in place and keeps the previous file until the new one has started.

Older Windows

Windows 7 build

Windows 7 SP1, 8, 8.1, Server 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 · 64-bit

A native build of the same program, nothing to install. It hosts only: control it from a newer PC. Windows 7 needs update KB4474419 to read the signature; the program tells you if it is missing.

Download remote-win7.exe

Does not update itself: download the new file and replace the old one. What it needs.

Before you install. If someone on a call asked you to download this, whether they said bank, tax office or tech support, stop. That is a scam, every time. Read the safety page first.

Windows warns about an unknown publisher

The files are signed, but with our development certificate until the public one is issued, and SmartScreen calls that an unknown publisher. Right-click the file, Properties, Digital Signatures, and you can see who signed it and when. The signing page says what the signature proves and when the warning goes away.

Which one for the other computer?

Any of them. The installer on a PC you want to reach when nobody is signed in, the portable exe on a PC you only sit at, the Windows 7 build on anything older. They all connect to each other.

What it costs

Nothing on Windows, at home or at work, with no timer and no session cap. The Mac, iPhone and Linux versions are planned and will be paid. The terms and the privacy page are short and written for people.

Updates

The program checks for a new version on its own, half a minute after it starts and every six hours, and installs it when you say so. The Windows 7 build does not: download the new file and replace the old one.
