Terms

Two things are covered here: the software you run, and the service it talks to.

The software

Utly Remote is published under the Functional Source License, version 1.1, with an Apache 2.0 future grant (FSL-1.1-ALv2). In plain terms: you may read, build, modify and self-host it for any purpose, including inside a company, except offering it to others as a product or service that competes with Utly Remote. Two years after each version is published, that version becomes available under the Apache License 2.0 without the restriction. The licence text is in the repository and governs; this paragraph is a summary.

The software is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Utly Development Studio is not liable for what is done with it or for what it fails to do, to the extent the law allows.

The Utly name and marks are not covered by the software licence.

The service

The broker and relay at utly.dev introduce copies of the software to each other and carry their encrypted traffic when they cannot reach each other directly. Using them, with or without an account, means agreeing to the following.

Use. Connect only to machines whose owner has agreed, on the accept card or by giving you their unattended password. Do not use the service to deceive, coerce, defraud or spy on anyone, to access systems you are not authorised to access, or to distribute malware. Doing so ends your access: IDs and accounts involved in abuse are blocked, and reports may be passed to the authorities when the law requires.

No guarantee of service. The service is run on a single server by a small studio. It may be unavailable, slow or discontinued. There is no service-level agreement and no fee, and therefore no refund.

Accounts. You are responsible for the password, the authenticator and the recovery codes. There is no password reset. We may remove accounts that are used for abuse or that stay unused for a long time, with reasonable notice where we can give it.

Relay. Relayed traffic is encrypted end to end; the relay is a pipe. Sessions that use the relay consume shared bandwidth; we may limit relayed sessions that are unreasonably heavy.

Reports and blocking. Anyone can report an ID from inside the app. A person reviews reports; an ID or account confirmed as abusive is blocked from registering and from opening sessions. If you believe you were blocked in error, tell us through the repository’s issue tracker.

Privacy. What the service stores is listed on the privacy page, which is part of these terms.

Changes. These terms change when the service changes; the current version is on this page and its history is in the site’s source.

Law. The service is offered from India by Utly Development Studio; Indian law applies to it.
